On Sunday, as Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared the stage with Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam chief C Gopesh Vijay as the latter took oath as Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, another Congress leader – Abhishek Singhvi – appeared before the Madras High Court in a case that could damage the ruling coalition’s slim majority.
Singhvi appeared for TVK’s MLA from Tirupattur Assembly seat, S Sethupathi, who won by just one vote against former DMK minister KR Periyakaruppan. According to two Congress leaders, Singhvi held two daily meetings with the TVK leadership over the past week. When Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlikar rejected Vijay’s invitation to form the government, citing lack of numbers, TVK leaders consulted Singhvi to draft letters to the governor and for legal advice.
