Widespread clashes between police and protesters broke out across Bihar on Saturday during a statewide lockdown, resulting in three students being injured in alleged police firing in Siwan, officials familiar with the matter said, adding that an investigation is underway to ascertain whether the injured were hit by police firing.
The squad has been summoned by the All India Students Association (AISA) and other Left student organizations over the alleged NEET leak and Wednesday’s police action in Patna.

Hours after the violence, the state Home Ministry imposed a partial internet ban and restricted social media platforms until Sunday at 5.30pm, saying some posts could “disturb public order and peace”. “It is felt that misuse of social networking sites and instant messaging services is likely to harm peace and tranquility in Siwan district,” the order issued by Home Minister Kundan Kumar said.
Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha confirmed the injuries, saying, “The police opened fire in self-defense after some anti-community activists mingled with the protesters and opened fire on the police at JP Chowk… We are yet to ascertain whether the injured were hit by police bullets or by the protesters as the firing took place from both sides.”
