Ten schools across Chandigarh and neighboring Mohali received bomb threat calls on Tuesday, triggering security checks and suspending classes as a precautionary measure. Students have been sent back home and police teams have been deployed to secure campuses.

Police deployed outside a school in Chandigarh that received a bomb threat (HT Photo)One of the affected schools notified parents via an emergency message that classes had been suspended for the day due to a reported security concern. The school said buses that had already started their routes were being turned away and asked parents to collect their children from specific stops.

“The safety of our students, staff and families is our highest priority, and this decision was made out of an abundance of caution,” the message said, adding that reopening updates will be shared after authorities complete their assessment.

Local police and emergency response teams were alerted, and standard security protocols, including a campus search, were initiated.

No suspicious objects have been officially confirmed at the time of writing.

Bomb threats have also been made to schools in DelhiThe threats in Chandigarh and Mohali came a day after multiple schools in Delhi received email bomb threats, prompting evacuations and a large-scale security sweep. According to school authorities in the capital, police, bomb disposal squads, dog squads and fire and ambulance services have been deployed across the affected campuses.

School principals in Delhi said that similar threats over the past year have largely proved to be hoaxes, but strict protocols are followed each time.

In October last year, more than 200 schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails in one day, and by 2024, more than 500 such threats were reported.
