The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form its government again in Uttarakhand for the third consecutive time in 2027, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Saturday.

Addressing a gathering in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, marking four years of the BJP government in the state, he said: “In 2024, Narendra Modi became Prime Minister for the third time in a row, an achievement that has not happened in six decades. In 2024, a BJP Prime Minister was elected in Odisha. A trilogy in Haryana, a trilogy in Maharashtra. In 2025, the AAP government was formed in Bihar,” he said. By a two-thirds majority. The BJP flag flies high in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. In 2026, BJP and NDA governments will be formed in Bengal and Tamil Nadu. But the people of Devbhoomi will have to inaugurate it in 2027. The BJP government will be formed in Uttarakhand again.”
Criticizing the opposition, he said: “Congress is the party associated with corruption and anarchy. It is the same party that opposed the creation of Uttarakhand. On the other hand, the BJP has deep faith in Char Dham and has worked to triple the number of Char Dham pilgrims. The BJP has connected every city in Uttarakhand with roads, provided employment opportunities to the youth without ‘kharchi’ or ‘parchi’, implemented the Uniform Civil Code, is taking measures to identify and remove and intruders have to choose between these two extremes.”
“Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, the Congress is completely divided. The party cannot ensure Devbhumi’s development. The state will go to polls again in 2027. For the last nine years, our two chief ministers have served Uttarakhand with complete dedication. Give the BJP a third chance, and we will work to make Uttarakhand number one among smaller states,” he added.
He said the Modi government allocated funds to Uttarakhand between 2014 and 2024, times more than what the Congress government provided during its tenure from 2004 to 2014. $The 12,000-crore, 900-km-long Char Dham project was implemented, along with the $Economic Corridor between Delhi and Dehradun worth 8000 Crores. Development is reflected in the state budget: between 2009 and 2014, Uttarakhand’s average budget was about $18,700 crores, and has now increased several times, which shows how far the state has come. Railway projects are worthy $Rs 26,000 crore was approved, several helipads were built, and Dehradun airport was upgraded. Considerable work has also been done in agriculture and fisheries. In 2014, the per capita income of Uttarakhand was $1.25 lakh, it has risen to $2.60 lakh in nine years.
People from the state struggled for statehood, the Congress and Samajwadi Party parties carried out repression against the youth of Uttarakhand to the point that it was unbearable, and many youth made the ultimate sacrifice… It was Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who shaped the state of Uttarakhand, he added.
He said that the state witnessed rapid development during nine years of BJP rule. “These nine years have been years of development for Uttarakhand, and for the last four years, CM Dhami (Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami) has taken up the problems one by one and worked constructively to solve them, which is why the state is progressing at a rapid pace.”
“1,900 youngsters got jobs as police constables. I sincerely want to ask: If there was a Congress government, would they have got these jobs? Earlier, one needed a recommendation slip and had to spend money. Now there is no recommendation and no bribe. Even the son of an elderly mother living in the hills can get a job without any recommendation. This is what good governance means. The anti-copy law brought by Dhami ji has brought transparency in government recruitment, which is why such opportunities have become possible,” he said.
He added that the introduction of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state will help address the problem of demographic change. “Dami Ji introduced UCC in Uttarakhand, and I want to congratulate him for that. Irrespective of the religion of the citizen, everyone will now be subject to the same law. Uttarakhand has become the state implementing UCC in the country. It will also help in addressing the abnormal growth in demographics.”
“Citizenship was granted here today to about 200 people who came from Pakistan and Afghanistan. When I brought the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Congress, SP, BSP, Mamata Banerjee and DMK created an uproar in Parliament. I want to say again that the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Jain refugees who came here have the same rights in this country as everyone else. They suffered persecution and came to India to protect their faith, their families and their dignity. Despite this, he said, “If We face opposition from Rahul Gandhi, we will ensure that they get citizenship.”
“The Modi government has completed many long-awaited tasks relevant to our culture, including abrogation of Article 370, implementation of the CAA, and construction of a grand Ram temple after centuries of waiting. Major redevelopment works have also been undertaken in Kedarnath and Badrinath, along with projects like Mahakal Lok and Kashi Vishwanath Corridor,” he said, adding that the Congress, however, is focusing on “protecting intruders”.
He said the Dhami government in Uttarakhand has removed more than 10,000 encroachments and will continue to identify infiltrators and act against them. “The Election Commission is also working to clean the voter list and those who are not Indian citizens should not remain on the electoral roll. A clean voter list is essential to protect democracy,” he added.
