BJP state president Rajiv Chandrasekhar on Sunday criticized Chief Minister V D Sathisan for condemning three Kerala vice chancellors who attended an event addressed by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and criticized the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) government for practicing “appeasement politics”.

In a social media post, Chandrasekhar said the Prime Minister has no moral authority to lecture others on secularism or constitutional values.

He added, “A person who normalized radical Islam and organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami, and who came to power only because of the support of the Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami, should not talk about supporting secularism or respecting the constitution.”

Chandrasekhar said it was unacceptable for the Prime Minister who had sworn to uphold the Constitution to criticize the Vice Chancellors for attending a public program delivered by the RSS chief.

“It is unacceptable that the Prime Minister who took oath to uphold the law and the Constitution is now intimidating the Vice Chancellors for attending a public program with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat,” he alleged.

The BJP leader further alleged that the United Democratic Front government was relying on support from organizations advocating religious politics.

He also accused both the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Maoist) of using the BJP and RSS as tools for political mobilization and vote bank politics.

“Gone are the days of treating the BJP and the RSS as a means of creating fear and garnering votes. The people of Kerala now realize that when it comes to appeasement politics, the Congress and the Communist Party of India are not two, but one.”

Chandrasekhar’s remarks came in response to the Prime Minister’s Facebook post in which Sathisan termed the participation of three vice chancellors in the RSS’s centenary programme, as a serious misstep.

“The participation of three vice-chancellors in the meeting addressed by RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat as part of the RSS centenary celebrations is being viewed with the utmost seriousness. The vice-chancellors have committed a grave mistake,” Sathisan said.

The Prime Minister also asked the Vice Chancellors to apologize to the people of Kerala.

Vice-chancellors of Kerala University, Mahatma Gandhi University and Malayalam University attended the RSS centenary program held in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.

Chandrasekhar also raised questions about the appointment of advocate KP Pradeep as special advocate for the Devaswom division.

Pradeep had resigned from his post after controversy erupted over his earlier appearance as a lawyer for one of the accused in the Sabarimala gold loss case.

“The issue does not end with Pradeep’s resignation. There are many serious questions that remain unanswered,” Chandrasekhar claimed.

He questioned the basis on which the Congress-led government appointed a lawyer who represented the accused in the Sabarimala gold loss case to represent the Devaswom Board.

He wondered, “Who approved this appointment? Was it a deliberate attempt to obstruct the ongoing investigation?”

The BJP leader pointed out that Satheesan had earlier demanded a CBI probe into the Sabarimala gold loss case while he was serving as opposition leader.

“After he came to power, this request disappeared. Instead, the government appointed a special lawyer for Devaswom, the same lawyer who represented the accused in the case,” he added.

He further claimed that the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Maoist) are united in protecting those responsible for Sabarimala-related wrongdoings.

“The BJP-NDA’s struggle will continue until every person involved in the Sabarimala gold loss case and related offenses is brought before the law,” he said.
