BJP’s Bankipur Assembly candidate Abhishek Kumar Sinha on Friday withdrew his nomination citing family reasons, a day after filing the nomination.

The saffron party on Tuesday named the youth wing leader as its candidate in the bypoll to the Bihar Assembly constituency, which fell vacant after the resignation of BJP national president Nitin Nabin.
Jan Suraj founder Prashant Kishor is also contesting from the seat. According to a press release issued by the BJP, the party has now named Neeraj Kumar Sinha as its candidate in the elections against Kishor.
The bypoll will be held on July 30, with votes scheduled to be counted on August 3. The deadline for submitting nominations is July 13.
“The BJP has made me the NDA candidate in the bypoll to the Bankipur assembly seat. I express my gratitude to the central and state leadership. However, due to family reasons, I cannot contest the bypoll,” he said at a press conference in Patna.
Sinha said he had conveyed his decision to state BJP president Sanjay Saraogi.
The new BJP candidate, 32-year-old Neeraj Kumar Sinha, previously served as ward president and district vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the party said in the statement. The statement further said that he is associated with the BJP since 2006.
