The Bharatiya Janata Party, the main partner of the ruling NDA party seeking to win a third consecutive term in the state, leads its candidates with three seats.
The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), which held power in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for a single five-year term before being ousted by the UPPL in 2025, leads by one seat, according to the latest EC data.
The Congress also holds the lead with one seat in the APC.
The BTC, an autonomous body under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, administers Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri and Tamulpur districts.
The BPF fielded candidates in 11 of the 15 BTC constituencies, leaving the rest to the BJP. UPPL had candidates in all BTC seats.
Within the opposition bloc, the Congress contested the bulk of the seats, leaving one seat each for the Raijor Dal and the Communist Party of India (Maoist).
Among the NDA’s leading candidates in the lead is outgoing Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari (BJP), who is leading by over 14,000 votes against UPPL chief Pramod Boro in Tamulpur constituency.
Demary represents Baniri in the current assembly, which was abolished during the demarcation process. House of Representatives elections will be held for the first time since the redrawing of electoral districts in 2023.
Boro was recently sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP and is also an elected member of the BTC.
BPF leader and minister in the outgoing state government Charan Boro leads his nearest rival, Preeti Rekha Barla of the Congress, in the Mazepat constituency by about 43,000 votes.
Sioli Mohilary, wife of BTC president Hagrama Mohilary, who is making her electoral debut, is contesting in the Kokrajhar seat against MLA and UPPL candidate Lawrence Islari.
Other seats where the BPF is leading are Gosaigaon, Dutma, Bawkhungri, Sidli-Chirang, Manas, Baksa, Bhargaon and Udalguri.
Among the BJP candidates leading in the BTR is Victor Kumar Das in Goreswar, defeating his nearest rival Pabitra Kumar Baru of UPPL.
Bikan Chandra Deka (BJP) leads Congress MP Rohit Parija in Tangla by more than 26,000 votes.
The UPPL is leading in the Bijni constituency, with its candidate Kamal Singh Narzary leading the BJP’s Arup Kumar Dey by a slim margin of 221 votes, at the halfway point after the votes are counted.
Congressman Ashraf Islam Sheikh is leading in the Parbatgora seat by about 9,000 votes against BPF’s Razaul Karim.
In a major realignment ahead of the Assembly elections, the BJP parted ways with its former ally UPPL and brought the BPF back into the NDA fold after the latter’s landslide victory in the BTC polls in October last year.
The Hagrama Mohilary-led BPF, the dominant force in BTC politics since 2005 and barring one spell out of power in 2020, has remained a key ally in successive state governments, regardless of whether the Congress or the BJP is at the helm in Dispur.
Although initially excluded from the current regime, the Sudan People’s Liberation Front later gave its support to the government within the council before officially joining the ruling coalition.
In the outgoing Assembly, UPPL has seven MLAs from the district, followed by BPF with three and BJP with two.
