Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to heavy rain on Thursday morning that led to waterlogging in several areas. The day itself came as a relief to Mumbai after days of incessant monsoon rains that caused waterlogging and traffic disruption.

Delhi-NCR schools open or closed?

As rain lashed the national capital, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the city. Meanwhile, persistent heavy rains have led to waterlogging, disrupting daily commutes and routines.

In Noida’s Sector 115, roads were submerged. Similar conditions were reported in Ghaziabad, where flooded roads led to traffic jams.

With Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and neighboring areas receiving rain, no order has been issued yet regarding the closure of schools in these places.

“The Delhi government is working on war footing to address the waterlogging problem. All government agencies are on high alert on orders of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta,” the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

Teams from the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been deployed across the national capital to remove waterlogged spots and ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Are schools open in Mumbai?

The IMD forecast that the sky will be generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain in Mumbai and its suburbs during the day.

Moreover, heavy rain is likely at isolated places, accompanied by lightning, thunder and gusty winds of 40-50 km per hour, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s PTI news agency reported.

All schools and colleges in Mumbai remained closed on Tuesday as a precautionary measure. But for Thursday, there is no clarity yet.
