Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in 64 mandals across Vizianagaram, Maniam, Polavaram, NTR, Guntur, Palnadu, Markapuram, Prakasam, Nellore and Tirupati districts.

“A heatwave coupled with high temperatures is likely to prevail in several mandals across the state today, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in some areas,” SDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain said in an official press release.

Jain further said that people have been advised to take necessary precautions against the extreme heat and humid conditions prevailing across the state.

Meanwhile, he noted that severe heat impact was observed in 252 mandals across 20 districts on Friday, where temperatures crossed 41 degrees Celsius.

The highest temperature recorded was 45.9 degrees Celsius at Pidugurala in Palnadu district, followed by 45.5 degrees at Gudur in Nellore district, 45.1 degrees at Peddapparubuddi in Krishna district and Turagadhipadu in NTR district.

The temperature also reached 44.1 degrees in Shibrolu in Guntur district, 44 degrees in Karamshedu in Bapatla district, 43.2 degrees in Sangamala in Nandyal district, and Kodur in Kadapa district.

Meanwhile, he said the depression extending from southern Odisha through Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu up to the Gulf of Mannar continues to affect weather conditions across the state.

The system is expected to bring light rain accompanied by lightning at isolated places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Chittoor and Tirupati districts on Saturday.

The weather is expected to calm down on Sunday and Monday, with cloudy skies and rain accompanied by active winds likely in some areas.

The authority advised people to take necessary precautions against extreme heat, while farmers, workers and shepherds were warned against standing under trees during thunderstorms.
