Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Friday criticized the BJP-led Delhi administration after the death of a biker who fell into a deep pothole on an under-construction road in west Delhi’s Janakpuri dug by the Delhi Jal Board.

According to the source of the deceased’s family, The man was returning home late at night from his workplace in Rohini When the accident is supposed to have occurred. Pictures from the scene circulated on social media showed the victim lying in a ditch next to his Apache RTR 200 motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet, riding jacket and gloves at the time of the accident.

Saurabh Bharadwaj criticized the BJP governmentReacting to the incident, AAP leader Sourav Bharadwaj launched a scathing attack on the BJP government, repeatedly alleging civic failure and saying negligence claimed the life of “just another innocent bread-winner”.

He wrote in X, “Main road under PWD, Govt of Delhi, and excavated by DJB. [Delhi Jal Board]. The local RWA authorities have complained about this danger several times, but who listens? This tragedy was waiting to happen. Despite allegations, the death trap was not properly barricaded to prevent loss of life.”

In another post, Bharadwaj shared pictures from the site and said, “An innocent biker falls into a deep pothole on the road, gets stuck, lies there overnight and dies. Delhi BJP government has learned nothing from Noida incident. They lie everyday.”

‘Hundreds died due to negligence’Amplifying his criticism, Bharadwaj also linked the incident to what he described as a broader pattern of civic failure.

“Hundreds of people have died in the past one year due to the government’s negligence. Some drowned in overflowing drains, collapsed walls, children died in open sewer manholes; some were electrocuted, some drowned in the Yamuna, some died in fires,” he added.

He alleged electoral compensation by the ruling party, saying, “However, this shameless BJP government is using taxpayers’ money as their party fund. They are brazenly giving compensation and jobs to the families of their party workers, ignoring hundreds of other common people who have been killed.”

BJP minister expressed griefMeanwhile, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood expressed grief over the incident, saying he was “deeply hurt by the tragic death of a youth who fell into a pit during the ongoing Jal Board work at Joginder Singh Marg.”

He also said that he visited the spot and met the family of the deceased. “Chief Minister @rekhagupta ji and the entire government stand with this family in this hour of grief. Orders have been issued to investigate the incident, and the culprits will be punished severely,” Sood said.

The family searched through the nightFamily members said, he last informed them that he was in Janakpuri district headquarters area. Soon after that her phone goes off and she becomes a mess. They claimed they spent the whole night looking for him, visiting several police stations and hospitals.

Police later shared his last known location, but he was not found until his body was discovered at a construction site.

A senior police officer said preliminary investigations showed that the hole was part of a construction site associated with the Delhi Jal Board.

“The area was duly barricaded,” the officer said, adding, “We are investigating the matter to determine the exact sequence of events.”

The incident comes just days after a similar incident in Delhi-NCR, where a young IT professional died after falling into an unmarked pothole in Noida. The accident took place on a sharp bend in thick fog and there were no warning signals or early warning signs during the excavation.
