A group of guests at a wedding in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh state, disturbed by the lack of alcoholic beverages, assaulted the bride, groom and their family members, police said.

Some members of the groom’s family were injured in the incident that occurred on Tuesday night in Pattai village under Arun police station area. The accused also stole household items and money during the assault, a police official said on Wednesday.
City Police Superintendent Manish Yadav told reporters that a local resident, Mahesh Jatav, was getting married when his neighbors asked to serve them alcohol during the celebration, which led to a dispute.
The groom’s refusal to provide or finance alcohol at the wedding sparked a dispute that quickly turned into a physical quarrel between the two parties.

The groom’s mother, Sheila, told reporters that after the bride arrived at their house, some rituals began when a few neighbors reached there and started demanding money from her son for liquor.
She alleged that when they were denied money to buy alcohol, the neighbors beat up her family members, including the groom.
When she tried to intervene, the neighbors assaulted her, her husband and the bride, Jatav’s mother accused.
Police said the incident is under investigation.
