A 45-year-old Indian woman from Gujarat was shot dead during a suspected robbery attempt at a supermarket in Virginia, US.

NDTV reported that the victim, identified as Majnaben Patel, had been working at the supermarket for 10 years.
The local police arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident, cordoned off the area, and opened an investigation.

Special teams have reportedly been deployed to nab the attacker.
The attack was detected on camera
In an alleged video circulating on social media, a man is seen entering the supermarket wearing animal print pants, a full-sleeved jacket, a face mask and gloves.
He is seen interacting with Patel, and appears to be posing as a potential client.
The man was then seen putting his hands in his pockets and pacing in front of the table for a minute before pulling a gun from his jacket.
He shot Patel twice as she collapsed to the floor, and jumped on the table to take one last shot before fleeing the scene.
HT was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the video.
Who is Majnaben Patel?
Daily Jagran reported that Majnabeen Patel hails from Jantral village in Bijapur district of Mehsana district in Gujarat.
She is survived by her husband Upendrabhai Patel, daughter Nakshi and son Smith.
Her parents Karsanbhai and mother Kapilaben reportedly live in Jantral.
Daily Jagran reported, citing villagers, that the deceased was a very loving and simple-minded woman.

Earlier in March, a 22-year-old man from Samora village in Indri district of Haryana’s Karnal district was shot dead in his rented apartment in Georgia, US.
The deceased Chetak Sharma, popularly known as Lakha, had illegally immigrated to the US in 2024 after completing school, in search of better financial prospects to support his family.
Sharma, who worked as a store keeper, was found shot dead inside his room.
Sharma’s family, which took a loan of Rs 50 lakh to send Chetak abroad, has appealed to the government and social organizations to help bring his body back home for the last rites.
