Accepting the proposal to build an Olympic-standard artificial sports track at Punjab University, Mandaviya said progress is expected to be made on the proposed track in the next two-three months, the ABVP said in a statement.

Led by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad national general secretary Virendra Singh Solanki, the delegation proposed setting up sports universities in every state and centers of excellence and multi-sports complexes in every district.

Among several other recommendations, the student body also suggested initiatives to identify talent in rural and tribal areas, health and accident insurance for athletes, sports equipment banks, launching a national digital sports portal, and increasing recognition of MY Bharat volunteers.

She said that after submitting a memorandum to Union Minister Mandaviya on Saturday, the delegation made a series of suggestions to promote sports culture across the country, empower youth, and protect the interests of athletes.

“One of the major outcomes of the discussion was the long-standing demand raised by the ABVP and the Punjab University Students’ Union to build an Olympic-standard synthetic sports track at the University of the Punjab,” she added.

The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports appreciated the proposal to set up ‘sports equipment banks’ in rural areas and assured the delegation that positive steps would be taken in this direction, the ABVP said.

“India’s youth constitute the nation’s greatest strength and will play a crucial role in achieving a developed India. If modern sports infrastructure, scientific training, quality training, equal opportunities and effective protection of interests of athletes are ensured, India can rapidly progress towards becoming a global sports power,” Solanki said.

He added, “Sports is not just a way to win medals, but it is also a powerful tool for enhancing discipline, leadership, self-confidence and the spirit of patriotism among young people.”

He added that the ABVP welcomed the assurances and expressed hope that timely decisions on the proposals would help promote sports culture and support the all-round development of athletes and youth.
