The accident reportedly occurred on the Bareilly-Haridwar NH-74 road, where the pothole proved lucky for Vinita Shukla, who was declared brain dead by doctors last month after she suddenly fainted while doing work at her home on February 22.

The Times Of India reported that her upset and devastated family were going to take her home on February 24 to perform her last rites after doctors at the hospital told them there was “no hope of survival.”

The newspaper quoted Kuldeep Kumar Shukla, Vinita’s husband, as saying: “She was not breathing. There was only a heavy pulse,” as he recounted how the family was preparing for her funeral.

Prepare for the funeral, then surprise

Amidst the shock and despair, a wave of hope emerged when the ambulance carrying Vinita hit a pothole in the road. This insignificant development proved to be a great miracle for the Venita family as they were revived back to life after the great shock caused by the crater.

“When the ambulance reached Hafizganj, it hit a big pothole and the car moved violently,” Kuldeep told TOI, describing how Vineeta, who had a sinking heartbeat earlier, started breathing normally after the jolt.

He said he asked his family to finish all preparations for the funeral, rushed Vinita to Neurocity Hospital in Pilibhit and returned home the next day, a feat Kuldeep described as “conquering death”.

What happened to Vinita?

According to TOI, Vinita, who was working in judicial courts in Pilbhit, collapsed while doing household chores last month on February 22. She was referred to a medical facility in Bareilly for treatment, and doctors later declared her “brain dead”.

She reported “total unresponsiveness” and had no brainstem reflexes when she was assessed at the hospital in Bareilly. A doctor at Pilibhit Hospital received information regarding her treatment there, where her husband took her after she made a miraculous recovery after the ambulance hit the pothole.

The Pilibhit doctor also added that tests, diagnosis and subsequent treatment helped Vineeta’s recovery.
