GURUGRAM: A 32-year-old motorcyclist, who was allegedly traveling on the wrong side of Sohna Elevated Road, was killed after his two-wheeler collided head-on with a Mercedes car near Vatika Chowk on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

The police said that the deceased was identified as Vipin Kumar, a resident of Jarsa in Sector 32.
According to investigators, Kumar was driving his Honda Activa towards Sohna from Subhash Chowk in the wrong direction when he collided head-on with a white Mercedes Benz E-Class registered in Faridabad on the elevated section of Sohna Road above Vatika Chowk between 11.45pm on Saturday and 12.10am on Sunday.
The Mercedes car, which was carrying a couple and two children, was heading towards Rajeev Chowk from Sohna, police said. The occupants of the car escaped unharmed. Officers added that the collision caused severe damage to the front of the vehicle and led to the scooter completely collapsing.
Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Sandeep Turan said that the Mercedes driver informed the police control room immediately after the accident and provided dashcam footage of the incident. “The driver submitted the dashcam footage to the police. Prima facie, it appears that Kumar was going in the wrong direction, which led to the accident,” he added.
The passengers stopped a passing ambulance and took Kumar to the Civil Hospital in Sector 10A, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, Turan said. He added: “He suffered serious head injuries when he flew into the air and fell on the windshield of the car.”
Meanwhile, Kumar’s uncle, Hari Singh, claimed that the family was informed about the incident about five hours later. “We rushed to the civil hospital to find him dead. The police were initially not ready to register even an FIR in this case while trying to rescue the Mercedes driver and blame everything on my nephew,” he told HT. Based on the complaint of the victim’s cousin, the police registered an FIR against the Mercedes driver under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Badshahpur police station. The body was handed over to its family after an autopsy, and investigations are still ongoing.
