The accused, identified as Sarabjit Singh from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested and booked on charges of violating the security of the association and attempted murder.

HT had earlier reported that the man, driving a Tata Sierra SUV, broke through Gate 2 – designated for VIP movement – entered the complex, came out to place a bouquet in speaker Vijender Gupta’s car, and then drove away.

According to Delhi Police, his nephew has been missing since April 1, and a complaint has been registered at Hari Nagar police station. During interrogation, Sarabjit said he believed a senior official of the association would listen to his case, news agency ANI reported.

The family says Sarabjit Singh is mentally disturbed

Police said he was not familiar with the roads in the capital and paid money to taxi drivers $2000 to sit in his car and guide him after he left the association. He was planning to head to Parliament next, the ANI report added.

The family members claimed that Sarabjit is mentally disturbed. His wife submitted a prescription from Shahjahanpur indicating that he was undergoing treatment, which the police verified.

He has undergone a medical examination and will be produced before the Tis Hazari court. Police added that he displayed extremely violent behavior while in detention, repeatedly hitting the prison grates, screaming and causing disturbances throughout the night.

Sarabjit was described by police as physically strong and financially well-off, who had recently bought a new Tata Sierra in February.

He entered the association’s compound alone and was not carrying any weapon. The roles of the other two people detained with him have not yet been determined, although they are being questioned as a precaution.
