The man, identified as 23-year-old Raju Pal, who had a one-sided love for the woman, was not ready to take ‘no’ for an answer. However, unlike how events unfolded for Viru in the film, the man was taken into police custody and sent for counselling, PTI reported.

The incident, which attracted a huge crowd of onlookers to witness the spectacle, took place in UP’s Kashiani Khera village under Tilhar police station limits on Monday.

The man threatened to jump, and came down seven hours later

Pal, who claimed to have been in love with the woman for the past eight years, threatened to jump from the tower if he was not allowed to marry her, police told PTI on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old’s previous proposals to marry the woman were strongly rejected by her family, while his family members also refused to support him. After repeated refusal, Pal decided to climb the mobile phone tower, causing panic among the village residents, according to the agency.

After Pal’s threats, the police were called. Upon receiving information about the accident, a police team rushed to the scene. After arriving at the tower, the police team tried to convince the man to descend safely from the tower.

Pal was convinced to come down after seven hours, Telhar district officer Jyoti Yadav told PTI. According to the precinct officer, Pal’s family said they had no idea about his plan.

Pal has been taken into police custody and is currently under surveillance, Telhar station house officer Jugal Kishore told PTI. Kishore said that he has also been consulted to prevent him from taking any such steps in the future.
