PTI news agency quoted police as saying that the accused, an autorickshaw driver, carried out the violent attack after an argument with the minor’s father in the Palghar district of Maharashtra.

A video clip of the incident shows the accused heading towards his stroller, then lifting the child from the ground and hitting him forcefully. The driver was then seen picking up the four-year-old and running into the building.

The incident, which was captured on CCTV, took place in a residential society in Vasai on Monday evening.

The accused is in custody, the child is critical

According to PTI, the police said that the accused was arrested after the incident, while the child was seriously injured and was taken to hospital. The four-year-old boy sustained head injuries and was taken to the intensive care unit at a hospital on Mira Road, fighting for his life, police added.

“The brutal incident took place around 8 pm on Monday. A simple altercation between the accused auto-rickshaw driver Sandeep Pawar and the child’s father Atul Kundhari took a horrific turn,” Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Gadegaonkar told PTI.

The inspector said that the child was playing with other children in the parked vehicle when the driver got out to the three-wheeler. After forcefully beating the child, “the driver rushed into the building carrying the child and hit his head with an iron bar before throwing him to the ground again,” Gadegaonkar said.

The inspector said that the attack was carried out only to take revenge for an argument he had earlier with the boy’s father over a minor issue.” The accused was remanded in police custody for three days by a local court, after a case was registered against him under the heading of “attempted murder” and other relevant sections of the National Security Department.
