An auto-rickshaw driver has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman after drugging her with fermented juice in Adoor here, police said on Saturday.

The arrested accused was identified as Vinod, a native of Adoor, who went into hiding after the police registered a case against him.
According to police, the 28-year-old victim was living separately from her husband near Vinod’s house.
Police officials at Adoor police station said that the woman was renting Vinod’s auto for travel purposes.
In February this year, the accused allegedly drugged the woman with steaming juice and sexually assaulted her, police said.
He later recorded videos of the victim and threatened and sexually harassed her several times, the police alleged.
As Vinod continued to threaten to share the videos on social media, the victim informed her husband about it.
In a fit of rage, Vinod allegedly assaulted the woman, following which she approached the police station and filed a complaint last month, police said.
As there was a delay in arresting Vinod, the complainant approached the district police chief, after which the investigation was intensified and the accused was arrested on Friday night.
Police officials said Vinod is being interrogated and efforts are on to recover digital evidence related to the case.
The police added that he will later be produced before the court as part of the remand proceedings.
