An Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter on Sunday airlifted an 85-year-old paralyzed woman from Dhanderwari in Himachal Pradesh after heavy snowfall blocked all roads and hampered access to medical aid.

“An IAF Cheetah helicopter evacuated an 85-year-old paraplegic woman from Dhanderwari (9,000 feet amsl) in Himachal Pradesh for emergency treatment. Chandigarh” wrote the Indian Air Force on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

The mission was conducted in continuous snowfall and low visibility.

IAF sends relief to fire-ravaged Manipurin the North-Eastern States Manipurthe Indian Air Force delivered around 40,000 liters of water in three days, it said in a post on X.

At an altitude of around 9,500 feet, the IAF’s Mi-17 V5 choppers delivered fire, wind and water to Manipur amid low visibility, the IAF wrote.

“Where the air is thin, determination is strong,” the post read.

The relief operation is part of the IAF’s prolonged efforts to contain the fire that spread in the Dzükou (Dziiko) valley. Nagaland and Manipur three days ago and since then Mt. Iso (Mt. SI), Manipur’s highest peak, has spread, HT had earlier reported.

Visuals show aid being dropped from a height with parachutes. “Alert in crisis, steadfast in duty” it says.

North India is struggling with coldAccording to India Meteorological Department’s morning weather bulletin from Shimla on Sunday, Tabo recorded the lowest temperature in the state. Lahaul-Spiti -3.6 °C, while the highest maximum temperature recorded at Paonta Sahib was 24 °C.

As the higher altitude areas were covered with snow, the minimum temperature rose by 2 to 6 degrees Celsius at some places in Himachal Pradesh, while at some stations they were close to normal or 3 to 6 degrees above normal.

Several places received rainfall including Manali 10 mm, followed by Sujanpur Tira 7.8 mm, Sarahan 7.3 mm. Shimla 4.2 mm, Malran also 4.0 mm and Solan and Zuberhatti 3.4 mm.
