Tensions escalated after a child was killed after being hit by a vehicle, prompting angry locals to block the Mathura-Bareli road and pelt stones at the Mursan police station on Sunday, police said.

(Representative photo)According to officials, the incident took place around 3 pm when Yash (3), a resident of Daliya area of Mursan, allegedly hit a car. He was rushed to the district hospital and later referred to a higher medical center in Aligarh, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Angry residents protested and blocked the Mathura-Bereli road outside Mursan police station after hearing the news of the child’s death. As dusk fell, more people gathered, and some of them allegedly picked up stones from the nearby railway tracks and took them to the police station, they said.

Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said the driver and conductor of the vehicle were arrested soon after the accident and the vehicle was impounded. However, the agitators were demanding the handover of the accused to them, he said.
“Involved in the incident of stone pelting, three people have been identified and arrested. The situation is now under control,” added the SP.
