The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results of the National Eligibility Admission Test (Undergraduate) 2026 on Thursday. Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panchul Bansal from Haryana topped the NEET-UG ranking as 11.21 lakh candidates qualified the entrance exam this year.

Each of the winners received a score of 715 out of 720. While 19 candidates obtained a score of 700, and 138 candidates obtained a score of 690.

Notably, more than 93 per cent of the 138 candidates who scored above 690 were appearing in NEET-UG for the first time.

Preparing for NEET-UG exam

Aryan Gupta emerged as the top scorer in NEET UG 2026, securing an All India (AIR) rank of 1. Coming from a family of doctors, he said that “everything feels like a dream”.

He attributed his success to continuous dedication and studying for 16-17 hours a day. He also advised other aspirants to listen to their teachers.

“I worked hard, I couldn’t sleep, but it’s surreal now, it feels like a dream. Everyone is happy. I studied for 16 to 17 hours a day,” he told news agency PTI.

Talking about his future plans, he said that he wants to become an oncologist.

Talking about the reason behind it, Gupta said: “I want to become an oncologist. My grandmother died of cancer. I was in third level and then I took the pledge.”

Moreover, advising other NEET-UG aspirants, he said: “First of all, follow your teachers blindly. They have been teaching for many years. For 15-20 years.”

NEET-UG 2026 exam

The exam conducted on May 9 was canceled by the NTA on May 12 amid allegations of paper leakage. The matter is being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Following these allegations, the test was repeated on June 21. The NEET-UG test was conducted in 13 languages.

Following the controversy over alleged paper leakage in the examination process, the Center announced that the examination will now be conducted as a computer-based test (CBT).

NEET-UG 2026 tops at state level

PTI reported that Uttar Pradesh produced the highest number of successful candidates, with more than 1.7 lakh eligible candidates, while Lakshadweep got 43.

The top 17 candidates, all of whom scored above 705, came from eight states: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

NEET-UG exam

NEET-UG is the largest undergraduate entrance exam in the country, with a large number of aspirants appearing for the crucial test.

NTA NEET is conducted every year for admission to medical colleges. A total of 1,08,000 seats are available for MBBS course.
