Move over Happy Gilmore, there’s another rogue golfer in town.

In the new Netflix series FalconWill Ferrell stars as Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a retired golf legend who attempts to make the sport’s greatest comeback by chasing one last title. And in typical Ferrell fashion, it’s accompanied by a lot of mayhem along the way, just like his friend Adam Sandler’s character Happy Gilmore.

At the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday, Ferrell spoke about how The Hawk and Happy faced off against each other on the course, saying Hollywood Reporter “They come from two different approaches. I think Lonnie’s a Happy fan, and they’ll have a great time, but Lonnie’s going to get in his head.”

The co-stars also offered their thoughts on the hypothetical showdown, with Jimmy Tatro musing: “I think they’re going to get on each other’s nerves. I think Happy is going to get mad at The Hawk; it’s hard not to get mad at The Hawk if he’s hitting you, but just the antics, it’s the kind of stuff that would drive you crazy on the golf course.” “They’re both wildcards, it’ll be a good match,” Luke Wilson added, similar to the Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson rivalry.

Fortune Feimster revealed that she was open to Sandler on his stand-up tour when she got the role Falcon “And he was like, ‘Oh, that’s great!’ But she said the characters are “very different; I think you like seeing these non-golfing type guys in the very closed world of golf. That’s the comedy, the juxtaposition. I think they’ll give each other a very hard time but they’ll have a good time doing it.”

Ferrell teased the possibility of Happy appearing in Season 2, and noted that he and Wilson were also talking about doing a crossover with Owen Wilson’s golf-focused Apple series. It sticks. He meditated on “owning the characters from”. It sticks Come here Falcon And vice versa, like in superhero movies where we merge universes. I’m sure all the actors will say yes and they will both air people out [at Apple and Netflix] He’d be like, “No!” Keep them separate!”

After creating popular sports comedies such as Talladega Nights: The Ricky Bobby Song, Blades of Glory and Semi-professionalFerrell also explained why he chose a series this time instead of another movie.

“I was really interested in the possibility of shooting something in Los Angeles and was fascinated by playing a character for 90-plus minutes in a movie,” he said. “From a creative standpoint, being in the writer’s room, fleshing out not just this character, but all the characters and the story arc — the show gives you time to do those things that I’ve never done before. It was another first and I loved every second of it.”

This character includes an eye-catching wardrobe, a branded visor and some serious tan lines – leading to Lonnie Hawkins fronting the Skims campaign. Feamster recalls how during the show’s first table read, “Will showed up in costume, smoking a cigarette, and we all knew as soon as he walked into the room; we were like, ‘Oh, this is going to be good.'” He’s walking in with the music, him and Molly. [Shannon, who plays his wife] “Face to face,” she said, adding that she knew then “she was going to be something special.”

Falcon It begins streaming July 16 on Netflix.
