Polarizing director Uwe Boll offered to answer fans’ questions, and it’s safe to say things didn’t go as planned.

Known for B-movies such as Alone in the dark and Blood RainPaul participated in a Reddit AMA on Friday to promote his film Vigilant citizenWhich stars Armie Hammer. The film was predictably destroyed by critics, as is generally the case with Boole’s work Vigilant citizen It received a six percent approval rating from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes, despite having a 93 percent rating from audiences. Vigilant citizen The film follows Hammer’s character as he seeks to punish criminals, most of whom are portrayed as immigrants.

The proceedings got off to an inauspicious start, with the first question asking Paul why he was still making new films “after having already made some of the worst films ever made”. The German director answered tersely: “Above them all.”

This conversation didn’t get any more civil from there. One question noted that Paul had previously referred to the actors as “whores,” and then asked the director if he was a “prostitute who would please right-wingers,” since conservatives had defended the film and its anti-immigrant themes. “Certainly,” Paul replied in his native German.

Oh Paul
Oh Paul

When someone else asked Paul how he kept getting work, the manager replied: “Money.” In response to a different question about why he decided to cast Hammer “despite the controversy and allegations he raises,” Paul explained, “He is a great actor and he fits the bill.”

Although there were some questions that were more respectful, Paul clearly did not appreciate the overall tone of the exchanges. At one point, he posted a comment that said: “Guys, why are so many of you stuck in the past. You love to hate and disrespect me.”

He went on to encourage participants to watch some of his films and mentioned a long list of them, including postal (2007), commotion (2009) and Assault on Wall Street (2013). “Open your eyes,” he continued. “Forget my name and just watch the movies. Look at the ratings on Amazon and you’ll see what the real audience thinks…! You love berating me so much that you’ve forgotten yourself. Have a great evening and now watch football on TV instead of wasting my time here.”

Vigilant citizen It was the subject of headlines after Elon Musk briefly made it available to stream for free on X after the film was banned in Germany amid fears it might incite anti-immigrant violence. Paul posted on social media about the film doing well on digital platforms and teased a potential sequel.

The project marks one of Hammer’s first features since being dropped from WME after a number of sexual misconduct allegations surfaced in 2021. During a recent interview with Hollywood Reporterthe star recalls becoming emotional after getting the role Vigilant citizen: “I was going to do a cat food commercial. I just wanted to work again.”
