Log in Covenants In the end, Becca’s fate was precarious. After killing her father in a rogue act of justice in the penultimate episode, Gilead’s most reluctant wife-in-training is seized by the Eyes (Gilead’s police) after the Commander’s father reveals her location to her best friend.

Mattia Conforti, who plays Becca, explained this Hollywood Reporter Her violent act of revenge demonstrated her deep feelings for her best friend, Agnes, played by Chase Infinity in the Hulu series. The Handmaid’s Tale Sequel series. After Agnes confides in Becca that Becca’s father sexually abused her, like the others, Becca takes matters into her own hands to protect Agnes, and Conforti says she entered this ending aware of how Gilead dealt with killers.

“I think part of her thinks this is it. This is the end,” she says. THR.

But that was not the case. Instead, Conforti now argues that Becca received a worse fate: marriage.

In the final episode of the first season, titled “Secateurs”, Becca’s mother takes the blame for her daughter and is killed, and Becca marries the leader – Garth (Brad Alexander), who is actually Agnes’s secret admirer. But before her wedding, Becca and Agnes shared a kiss. The scene, directed by Mike Parker, finally brought Becca’s seemingly unrequited feelings to the surface, and creator Bruce Miller credited both actresses with getting the pivotal moment right.

Below, Conforti shares her interpretation of what that kiss means for the two friends, with Becca now the wife of Gilead and Agnes returning to Aunt Lydia’s (Ann Dowd) training school after her marriage rejection — but armed with the empowering information that her real mother is June Osborn (Elisabeth Moss) heading into an already renewed season two.

Is Becca’s fate really worse? She thought she might have to die and be punished with the eye for killing her father. Instead, her mother takes the blame and is killed and…

Becca is married, yes…

She seems more depressed as she walks away from her wedding.

Yes, for Becca, this is the worst possible scenario. I think after she killed her father and then everything happened and the eyes took her, part of her thinks, “This is it. This is the end. And you know what? The light at the end of the tunnel is that I never got married and that I escaped a fate that I thought I had no choice to get out of.”

However, unfortunately, we learn that not only does she have to get married, but her mother has to take the blame in order to save Becca, which shows an undying act of a mother’s love for her child and how ridiculous Gilead is in how women bear the consequences of men’s actions. This is Becca’s father [who instigated all of this]it rocks her entire world. If anything had happened, Becca would have been married and alone and would still be alive than if she had been punished.

What is your interpretation of Becca and Agnes kissing? Did they act on feelings and confess deeper love or was it a farewell?

It’s hard. We had a lot of conversations about that kiss, because that’s an important moment for their relationship, and what story are we trying to tell from Becca’s point of view versus Agnes’ point of view? What we have concluded is that Becca has nothing to lose in this situation. Her father is dead. Her mother died – and she is getting married. There is no alternative, no way out of this marriage. She’s about to walk down the aisle. So there is nothing else to lose.

She started kissing as a way to show Agnes a final effort to say, “I love you. We’re in a world where we can’t be verbally honest about our feelings but maybe I can show you.” I think Agnes finally realized the love Becca had for her, and she reciprocated the kiss as a way of saying, “I support you. I’m here for you. I love you. You’ll always have me.”

Becca pulls away from the kiss as a thank you for being by my side and being my friend. But it’s also what Becca might think of as goodbye, because now her life as a wife begins and it’s all over for them. This is how we interpreted this scene.

It’s written all over her face. Did you make alternate versions of how this scene ended?

We did. We were trying to figure out how best to communicate the fact that Becca had these tranquilizers in her system that would make her stop resisting and walk down the aisle — so we didn’t want the kiss to be tired due to the medications she was using. We wanted to settle down right after that. So I rest my head on her shoulder and then look up, letting me find one last piece of comfort with Agnes, but then also getting out of whatever situation I’m in right now.

How will this change everything for Season 2 now that Becca is a wife?

I don’t know. I really hope she and Garth can have some great conversations about Mayday [the resistance movement]. I’d like to see if Becca can participate in the rebellion. I hope you can have another honest conversation – it could be with Daisy [Lucy Halliday] Again, but a conversation like the one she had in episode five about who she is and what she’s going through and her feelings in the world.

Bruce and his writers are currently working on season two. Do you have a schedule yet for filming season 2?

Me, no. All I know is that it’s happening, and I really hope it happens soon! I want to dive again. Watch the show again. I say: “We have to go. We have to start shooting.”

Do you think Becca will quickly discover in Season 2 Hannah’s true identity and that her mother is June?

I don’t know if Garth knows. It would be great if they figured it out together, or had family dinner or something like that one night. That would be interesting if Becca found out. I hope she spends a lot of moments with the girls, even though she’s a wife now. I hope they can stay connected like they were in season one.
