Prime Video will continue its romance streak into the fall, announcing Thursday that the upcoming Ali Hazelwood film adaptation Love hypothesis It will have a fall release on the platform.

The feature film, scheduled for release on the streamer on September 23, stars Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith, an uptight graduate student, and Tom Bateman as Dr. Adam Carlsen, a grouchy young professor. The story follows the old rom-com trope of fake dating.

First look photos of Reinhart and Bateman were released on Thursday. A video was posted on social media Thursday morning showing Reinhart drinking sugary coffee, a reference to her character Olive who often orders her caffeinated drinks on campus “dates” with Adam Bateman.

Reinhart takes a sip from his coffee cup before asking the barista: “Can I actually get sprinkles on this?” The trophy reads “9.23” to indicate the release date.

Love hypothesis It follows Olive (Reinhart), who has a brilliant Ph.D. “The candidate is focused on her future in academia. But when she realizes that her best friend Ahn (Rachel March) has fallen for Jeremy (Nicholas DuVernay), Olive impulsively kisses creepy professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) to prove she’s moved on,” the film’s synopsis reads.

The synopsis continues: “What begins as a desperate act of friendship escalates into a false relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most challenging hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.”

Jabuki Young White and Artie Frochan join Reinhart, Bateman, Marsh and DuVernay in completing the film’s cast. Claire Scanlon serves as director of the film, which includes a screenplay by Sarah Rothschild.

Love hypothesis It’s set to be highlighted during Prime Video’s immersive fan event, Obsessed Fest, later this month.
