Boys It has officially come to an end, with the finale of Prime Video’s hit superhero series arriving on Wednesday. In celebration, the cast and creative team united on Tuesday evening to ride off into the sunset together.
Creator Eric Kripke was joined by series stars including Chace Crawford, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Jensen Ackles and Daveed Diggs at the final event in Los Angeles, although leads Karl Urban, Jack Quaid and Antony Starr were not in attendance.
On the red carpet, Kripke opened up at the end of the film Boys era – which has seen some major deaths in Homelander, Billy Butcher and The Deep – as he explained that he mapped out some of the main characters’ journeys in the pilot episode.
“I want everyone to love it, it’s not fun to go online and get thousands of comments in a row saying ‘You suck, you suck, you suck, you suck,’ but I’ve kind of come to terms with that it’s going to be as polarizing as anything else,” the creator said of the expected fan reaction to the finale, after dealing with online backlash throughout the season. “One of the showrunners said to me a week or two ago, which I really liked, where he said, ‘Your job is to get an emotional reaction from people, not exactly what that reaction is,’ and I really liked that. So if people love it, if they hate it, as long as they feel the emotion, then I’ve done my job.”
While still feeling coy about The Deep’s fate in the event, Crawford said he was “happy” with its ending, because “there’s no real way around it.” While there may be room for a deep spinoff or prequel at some point, the star praised “the way Kripke did it with a five-act structure with the chapters and how it all worked out, somehow it miraculously stayed consistent with what was going on culturally in the real world, which is genius. You can only hit so many home runs, you’ve got to land the plane.”
Moriarty confirmed that she was “selfishly and universally satisfied” with the final episode, stressing that she hoped fans would “respond well.” “I feel like people will expect certain moments from it, and then certain moments will be a surprise,” she added. However, Ackles protests the finale, saying: “I want season six, seven and eight — you’re talking to a guy who’s done 15 seasons of the show[with[withsupernatural]So I’m really, five, that’s all? That’s all we get?
But since this was indeed the end, he relented, saying, “The way it wrapped it up I think is great. I think Kripke had a really tough job landing this plane the way he did, and as a fan of the show myself, I feel like it’s satisfying. So I’m happy for these guys, I’m happy for all of us, and I hope the fans are happy too.”
The biggest Boys However, the universe will continue, including Ackles’ groundbreaking series High Vought (next year) and sub Boys: Mexico Also in the works. Kripke also hopes to continue Fifth Gen Somehow, after this show was canceled after two seasons.
“I would like to know some locations for Fifth Gen “With the kids because their story is not over yet, and I feel like we left money on the table with them, so I would like to know that,” he said. BoysAnd I mean what a gift, I think we’ve told their story so I want to focus on characters that have a little less gas in the tank.
