South OTT releases this week: ‘Peddi’, ‘Mollywood Times’, ‘Sing Geetham’ top watch list; Here’s where to watch
The second week of July brings an exciting line-up of South Indian films. From sports dramas and mythological adventures to dark comedies and intense industry-based stories, viewers have many new titles to choose from and let’s take a look at a few of them.
“By my hand”
One of the biggest digital premieres of the week is ‘Peddi’, starring Ram Charan in the lead role. The action sports drama, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, will start streaming on Netflix from July 9, including its Malayalam dubbed version.Set in 1994, the story revolves around a talented young cricketer from a remote village in Andhra Pradesh as he battles social barriers while pursuing his sporting dream. Along with Ram Charan, the film stars Jhanvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkummar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu, Boman Irani, Ravi Kishan, Vijay Chandrasekhar and Shruti Haasan in cameo appearances.ETimes gave the film 3 out of 5 stars. The review stated, “Buchi Babu Sana deserves praise for trying to weave together themes of class, ambition and sportsmanship. While the film succeeds in highlighting the systemic challenges faced by marginalized communities, its treatment of female characters leaves a lot to be desired. Janhvi Kapoor’s character is largely reduced to a decorative presence. The normalization of a non-consensual kiss is another problematic aspect that feels outdated and unnecessary.”
