The trailer of Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji has been released in Mumbai, which shows the debut of his 10-year-old son Rahyl in the role of young Shivaji Maharaj. Genelia plays the role of Saibai. The trailer launch of ‘Raja Shivaji’ was an emotional family affair for the Deshmukh clan. While the historical saga boasts of a star-studded ensemble, it is Rahil Deshmukh, Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh’s 10-year-old son, who stole the limelight with his acting debut as the young Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.The film, directed by Riteish Deshmukh himself, has been hailed as a grand tribute to the Maratha Empire and is slated to hit the screens on May 1, 2026.

Deshmukh’s passing in the trailer of Raja Shivaji

The trailer had a grand launch in Mumbai on Monday. It begins with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj declaring the young man Swaraj, and delves into the warrior king’s formative years, typified by Deshmukh’s passing. Portraying an adult Ritesh Shivaji and Genelia as his wife Saibai, the clip showcases his fierce battles against the Mughals for Swaraj.

At the trailer launch, Riteish had tears in his eyes as he thanked his crew and inner circle for supporting the film. “I am very grateful to Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan and the entire team of Raja Shivaji who decided to become a part of this film. Abhishek stood with me like a brother,” he shared. Genelia, who doubles as a producer, also looked emotional at the event.

Background to Deshmukh’s departure

Raheel, born in 2016, is the younger son of Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh, with elder brother Rayyan arriving in 2014.

The siblings are often praised for their kind nature and kind compliments to photographers. The couple regularly posts real family snapshots on social media. Back at the launch of his show ‘Yaraon Ki Baraat’ in 2016, Riteish spoke about parenting: “It is completely up to them what they want to become in their life.

It’s their choice. As parents, we should not decide what our children should become. “I want my children to decide their future.”
