'Peddi': Will Ram Charan give one of the biggest hits of his career after 'RRR'?

‘Peddi’, the much-awaited film starring Ram Charan, is here as it hits screens across the world from today (June 3) with several grand premieres planned in different cities. Since its release, Peddi has become one of the most anticipated films in the Tollywood industry.

The anticipation has been building daily with teasers, trailers, songs and other promotional works.Given the promising commercial performance ahead of the film’s theatrical release, ‘Peddi’ has every chance of doing exceptionally well in its opening week.

Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor Leading a powerful rural sports drama

‘Peddi’, directed by Babu Sanna Bucci, is a rural sports drama set against the backdrop of 1980s sports events and dramas. In the film, Ram Charan plays the role of Bedi Pehelwan, a person with an insatiable fighting spirit.

Janhvi Kapoor plays the role of Achiyyamma in the film. The cast includes actors like Shiv Rajkumar, Gajapati Babu, Divyendu Sharma and Boman Irani. The music score in ‘Peddi’ has been done by AR Rahman, who has already raised people’s expectations about the film with his songs and background score. The film’s plot covers themes such as sports, village pride, love affairs, and the problems of the protagonist.

‘Peddi’ records huge pre-release works before the release

The film has already achieved great success before it reaches theaters.

As reported by Filmibeat, the theatrical rights in Telugu states were sold for Rs 165 crore. ‘Peddi’ reportedly needs a total of Rs 265 crore from Telugu states alone to reach the break-even mark. The overseas rights reportedly fetched Rs 40 crore, with the break-even target at around Rs 85 crore. The above figures show the high degree of confidence that distributors and cinemas have in the film.

The film’s successful pre-release also raised hopes about its box office success.

The Hindi version puts ‘Peddi’ in the big league

Unlike the regular Telugu release, ‘Peddi’ arrives as a Hindi film in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Trade experts estimate that the film needs to gross Rs 140 crore from non-Telugu territories. Overall, the film is targeting a global gross of nearly Rs 500 crore to become a pan-India hit.Only a select few Telugu films have crossed the Rs 500 crore mark worldwide. As a result, ‘Peddi’ enters theaters with huge opportunities and high expectations.

Netflix Launch of OTT ‘Peddi’ bags

While the spotlight is currently on the theatrical release, fans are equally curious about the film’s OTT plans. An official streaming release date has not been announced yet. But again, Netflix has bought the online rights to ‘Peddi’ and it will premiere after the theatrical release.Taking cues from the latest trends in the film industry, the film is likely to appear on the online streaming platform somewhere between 6 to 10 weeks after its release date. But until then, everything else related to ‘Peddi’ will revolve around the box office as Ram Charan aims to deliver one of the biggest hits of his career after ‘RRR’ with SS Rajamouli.
