Actor, politician and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan underwent major shoulder surgery in Mumbai on Saturday after being diagnosed with serious rotator cuff injuries in both shoulders. The Jana Sena Party confirmed that the three-and-a-half-hour operation on his right shoulder was successful and the actor-politician is recovering under close medical supervision. In a statement published on

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Shri Pawan Kalyan underwent shoulder surgery in Mumbai on Saturday morning. Following the recent diagnosis of severe rotator cuff injuries in both shoulders, medical experts advised immediate surgical intervention. However, Pawan Kalyan chose to postpone the action until he fulfills his previously scheduled official obligations. To effectively manage postoperative pain, doctors recommend not performing the procedure on both shoulders at the same time.

Consequently, a three-and-a-half-hour operation was performed exclusively on his right shoulder on Saturday, following standard pre-operative tests on Friday. Left shoulder surgery is expected in approximately two months. The party revealed that the shoulder injury dates back to 2016, but Pawan Kalyan repeatedly postponed treatment to continue fulfilling his political commitments. According to the statement, his condition gradually worsened over the years as he continued to participate in gatherings, public meetings and yatras despite medical advice to rest.“Shri Pawan Kalyan originally sustained injuries to his shoulder in 2016. Despite doctors recommending adequate rest, he continued to participate in public meetings. The condition worsened significantly during the Purata Yatra of 2018. In their zeal to salute their leader, Jana Sena supporters would often grab his hands and pull them. He endured the excruciating pain silently and continued to delay proper treatment. The pain was renewed again after the 2019 elections, during his tour of Rayalaseema areas, especially when he met tomato farmers in Madanapalli. The constant physical interactions, handshakes and affectionate hugs from huge crowds further strained his shoulders. He continued to bear the pain throughout the Varahi Yatra and the last general election campaigns. The true extent of the damage was determined in April during medical evaluations for a nose surgery.

Doctors discovered serious rotator cuff injuries and muscle tears, expressing astonishment that he could withstand such severe physical trauma for so long. Following their urgent recommendation for surgery, he underwent further assessment in Mumbai a few weeks ago, which culminated in surgery on Saturday.

He is currently recovering under close medical supervision.”Hours after the operation, the Jana Sena Party issued another update confirming the successful completion of the operation.

Doctors also discovered an avulsion fracture in Pawan Kalyan’s shoulder, making the procedure more complicated than initially expected, the party added. The statement read: “The surgery performed on Deputy Chief Minister of the state Shri Pawan Kalyan in Mumbai was very successful. A medical team led by world-renowned orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine expert, Dr. Dinshu Pardiwala, performed the operation on Shri Pawan Kalyan’s right shoulder.”

Major surgery had to be performed because, in addition to the rotator cuff injury, he also had an avulsion fracture in his shoulder.

The surgery took three and a half hours. He was transferred from the operating room to the recovery room and is currently coming out of the effects of anesthesia. Shri Pawan Kalyan is still under close medical supervision.
