What are the most popular Star Wars movies and TV shows on streaming? Some new data from Nielsen reveals some surprising results.
On May 4th, also known as “Star Wars Day,” Nielsen released a detailed analysis analyzing the popularity of Star Wars titles on Disney+ (the franchise’s home base).
The first thing that stands out is that the bulk of viewing time, 44%, was spent by fans watching the live-action Star Wars movies compared to 39% who watched the live-action series and 17% who watched the animated shows. So, even though there were hundreds of hours of Star Wars TV shows, the 11 films generated a significant share of viewership.
The most streamed title of 2025 was Andor The number of episodes is 18. This is not so also However, surprisingly, the second season of the popular drama debuted last spring (another title that dropped new episodes last year, the animated series Star Wars: Tales from the Underworldas stated in List No. 9).
What is even more surprising is that even when the analysis period was changed to the first quarter of this year, Andor It was still the most-streamed Star Wars show among two key demographics — Millennials (ages 30-45) and Generation X (ages 46-61). Star Wars premiere from Disney+, The Mandalorianwas most streamed among two interestingly disparate groups, Gen Alpha (ages 2 to 13) and Boomers (ages 62 to 80). Generation Z (ages 14-29) had a different choice than other groups, as they preferred Star Wars: The Clone Wars Animation series.
Going back to our top 10 favorite movies of 2025, the rest of the list was almost entirely filled with movies. Interestingly, no title from the much-discussed sequel trilogy made the list – although 2015’s The force awakens It stands as the biggest US domestic box office champion of all time, having grossed nearly $1 billion.

after AndorThe rest of the top ten were as follows: Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. (then Underworld and The Clone Wars Shown in Nos. 9 and 10). So the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy feel evenly balanced here despite critics and many fans’ vocal preference for the original.
These numbers come as Disney prepares to release the first Star Wars film in seven years The Mandalorian Sequel movie The Mandalorian and Groguwhich opens May 22.
