While the cast is creative Nobody wants this They came out to celebrate Season 2 at the Emmys For Your Concern event on Friday night, and Season 3 was fresh on their minds after wrapping filming this week.
Kristen Bell, Adam Brody, Timothy Simmons and Jackie Tonn joined creator Erin Foster at the Los Angeles event, where Foster gave a sneak peek at what they’ve cooked up in the new episodes.
“It was important for me to show the back half of the early romance when things get real, and it’s not always a fairy tale, but it’s a different kind of love story, it’s a different kind of fairy tale, which is like settling down and trusting each other,” she said. Hollywood Reporter. “It doesn’t sound exciting but that’s the basis of a good relationship. Now that that’s established and there’s no more separation, there’s no more like running to each other, now it’s like, okay, let’s move on and see what that looks like.”
Brody went so far as to declare that the upcoming season is “probably the best yet” because of how comfortable the stars are with each other and how intimately the writers know the actors. Season 3 will also see some new additions in the recurring roles of Sarah Silverman, Andrew Rannells, and Kayla Monterosso Megia, as well as Foster herself taking on the role of Nicole, an oddball and messy mess.
“Because I was originally supposed to be [Bell’s character] Joan and then I wasn’t, I felt like everyone at the show kept wanting to know what I should play. At some point after the first season, when I wasn’t thinking of anything for myself, I kind of turned away from it and thought, this is a tough job to do, there’s enough to keep me busy. “I didn’t need to add that to my plate,” Foster explained of her mindset while serving as writer and executive producer. “I was never planning to be anything on the show and act in it. “And then this character was written in the writer’s room — I had nothing to do with it — and when I wanted to impersonate the character that I thought she should be, it kind of became clear, ‘Okay, I think I should play Nicole.’
However, don’t expect Leighton Meester to appear again on the show after her tumultuous appearance in Season 2, with Foster confirming she’s not in Season 3 and her husband Brody noting, “It sounds like a one-off but I’m not ruling it out. But it doesn’t seem like it’s an integral part of Noah and Joan’s story” in Meester’s role as Belle’s middle school rival.
However, there are still plenty of guest stars on the wish list, with Foster giving her top pick to Adam Sandler as one of her “notable Jews I would love to have.” “The big ones — let’s get Adam Sandler, let’s get Barbra Streisand,” Brody chimed in. “We have a lot of good actors, even in small parts, because we shoot in L.A., because we’re a show with a big following. We really get our pick, and a lot of people will come even for one day or a scene, so we get great people,” Brody echoed.
To complete the dream list, Toon sees Streisand, Bette Midler, Susie Iseman, and Fran Drescher as all good choices to play her character’s mother Esther, and for shout out Simmons, Mandy Patinkin and Elliot Gould. The FYC event also included a panel discussion, moderated by Rannells, with Foster and the cast speaking alongside casting director Brett Greenstein, costume designer Nigar Ali Klein and music supervisor Jonathan Leahy.
