The UCLA women’s basketball team captured its first-ever NCAA Tournament on Sunday, defeating the University of South Carolina Gamecocks by a score of 79-51 in the women’s March Madness final.
The top-ranked Gamecocks were headed for their third championship win in five seasons and the fourth overall victory for head coach Dawn Staley, but fellow number-one seed UCLA captured its first college title and helped coach Cori Close win her first title in 15 seasons as the Bruins’ coach.
Now, as fans celebrate UCLA’s big win, Nike is also getting into the game, releasing official March Madness merchandise to commemorate the Bruins’ title win. The Bruins had a dominant year, going 37-1 during the 2025-26 NCAA basketball season. While Sunday’s win was the first women’s team basketball championship of the NCAA era, the Bruins captured the AIAW Big Ten National College Basketball Championship title in 1978 when it was under the Association of Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics.
The UCLA men’s team has won 11 NCAA titles but was eliminated in the second round of this year’s tournament.
