Stars exploit the system, says Imran Khan, slams actors who saddle a film with huge fees, says Aamir Khan never did: 'He'll never say give me Rs 60 crore' - Exclusive

Imran Khan he may have taken a movie vacation, but he is fully aware of everything that is happening around him. Not to mention that he was always very open and honest in his opinions.

The actor, who was never tempted by stardom, also never followed the formulaic path and what he was told to do as popular opinion. He chose his own path. Set to make a comeback, Imran has co-produced his upcoming film in addition to acting in it. He is teaming up with his director for ‘Break Ke Baad’. Danish Aslam for a role in the film Bhumi Pednekar. When we catch up with the actor for a meeting, he tells us that the film has been completed and is currently in post-production.

Meanwhile, when we talked about films, Imran recently revealed that actors are selected based on the budget of the film. When asked if such a system exists and whether he likes it, Imran told ETimes: “There are two sides to it. On the one hand, I understand, and it’s perfectly fair, that someone with more value will draw more attention to a film than an actor who doesn’t have the same appeal. Of course, that makes sense.

You would put more money on this actor than that actor. I can contribute a bigger budget.

I’m trying to make this large-scale action movie and it’s going to cost a lot, so you need someone who can draw that. It is absolutely fair.”

He added: “I think more and more we’ve reached a point where the stars are exploiting the system. What my uncle, Amir, taught me. And what I saw in the generation before me, in fact several generations before me, is that they would invest themselves in the film.

I don’t mean they open their wallets and put money into the film, but there is a sense of personal responsibility and ownership of the film.

Imran further criticized the system and said, “If I have a feeling that my film will cost 30 crores to shoot, that will be your production cost. And I say I will take 40 crores. So now your film costs 70 crores – 30 crores of which is the film itself and 40 crores is my personal salary.

What is our path to profitability now? And do I care about it? I have to take care of it. This is my movie. I think this movie could be a decent movie, take less money up front.

Roll the dice. Bet the movie will succeed. If anyone can afford it, it is a star if your salary is Rs 40 crore.” So, that’s it

Amir Khan

approach to each film? “Successively. That was always his approach.

He never took anything close to its value up front. He will take it in the rear. He will not say give me Rs 60 crore as fee, give me Rs 75 crore as fee. This is stupidity. You’re making your own movie worse. You are exploiting your film and enriching yourself personally at the expense of the film. That’s what it is. Basically, you don’t really have faith or belief in the movie.

He went on to explain: “It’s like ‘who knows what rubbish you’re going to do.’ Give me my money, get off me. I got my money, now who cares about the movie? It’s an attitude I don’t care about. And I believe that whoever is in the main role, behind whose back the film is funded and financed. If they don’t have enough financial security to rely on the success and quality of the film, then who else can gamble?”
