Ektaa Kapoor recalls crying while narrating 'Leila Majnu': 'I had to stop the script'

Ektaa Kapoor has supported countless emotional stories over the years. However, only a few stories really struck her. She recently recalled one such moment from the 2018 romantic tragedy Leila Majnu.

Ektaa said that the film’s narrative moved her so deeply that she broke down in tears, leaving the director stunned and forcing the screening to be halted.

When the story became extraordinary

Ektaa Kapoor recalled hearing the script from the director Sajid Ali. As the story unfolded, emotions took over. She cried so hard that the story had to be stopped, leaving Sajid visibly shocked. It took Ektaa a few minutes to regain her composure.Recalling the moment, she shared on Instagram, “So, I only cried three times in the story — once in the first episode of Kyunki when Mihir mentions Baa’s birthday; the second is during the story The Dirty Picture, when Silk dies; and the third is this scene.

I had to stop the story because I was crying so much. Sajid Ali was shocked. It took me five minutes to continue!!!! (sic)” The honesty impressed fans.

A scene that still amazes

Ektaa Kapoor also described the powerful scene that broke her, explaining how love and loss collided in that moment. She wrote: “The scene is still as amazing as when I first heard it. You imagine missing your loved one so much that when you finally see them, you faint.

Layla has been told a million times that Kais was having fun in London, but when she sees a thin, skinny version of the man she loved, she doesn’t need anyone’s lies.

She understands that his soul missed her as much as hers.” Rooted in emotional truth, this scene continues to resonate years later.

The film and its influence

“Leila Majnu” starred in the lead role Avinash Tiwari and Triptiy Dimri in the lead roles. The film retells the legendary Arabian love story of Laila and Majnoon in a modern setting, with Triptiy playing Laila and Avinash playing Kaisa Bhatt.
