Miley Cyrus has brought back her wig.
Exactly 20 years to the day Hannah Montana Cyrus premiered on Disney Channel in 2006, and returns as the secret pop star in an anniversary special celebrating the beloved children’s series.
In the special, Cyrus will revisit music and moments from the show. The first trailer, released Tuesday, shows Cyrus visiting some of the series’ recreated sets, including Hannah Montana’s closet with her mother, Tish Cyrus, and the Stewart family’s living room. The special will also feature never-before-seen archival footage.
“I got really emotional,” Cyrus says, opening the trailer as he walks through the set.
It was filmed in front of a live studio audience, and Cyrus was interviewed Call her father Host Alex Cooper. “This show defined your generation,” Cooper says in the trailer, to which Cyrus responds, “This is their anniversary. It’s ours.”
The clip also shows Cyrus with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who played her father Hannah Montana. “This feels like my home,” Cyrus says while sitting in the family living room.
When Disney officially announced the special last month, Cyrus shared a statement: “‘Hannah Montana’ will always be a part of my identity. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of many fans, and I will always be grateful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. Hanna Farsari “This is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who have stood by me for 20 years.”
Hannah Montana It ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2011. It follows Miley Stewart (Cyrus), a teenager who lives a double life as pop star Hannah Montana. Emily Osment and Mitchell Musso played Miley’s best friends, Lily and Oliver, while Jason Earles played her brother Jackson. The series also featured guest stars including Dolly Parton, Brooke Shields, the Jonas Brothers and Selena Gomez.
