Matt Damon has revealed that one of his body doubles in The Odyssey was female
Matt Damon physically transformed to play Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, but despite that, he also had some help from stunt artists in some key scenes.In a new interview, Damon revealed that one of his dramatic duets was a woman playing the Greek hero while the character takes on the giant Laestrygonians.
“When we did the power perspective stuff with the Laestrygonians, there were these guys who were seven feet tall, and then they got the business guys who were under five feet tall,” Damon said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.Damon added: “My lookalike was a woman, a stunt performer who had the greatest arms I had ever seen. When she entered the catering tent, it was the first time I had met her. I went up and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she had done.”Speaking about the making of the fight scene, Damon revealed that director Nolan and his team created the towering Laestrygonians using practical filmmaking techniques rather than relying entirely on CGI. According to Damon, the production used “forced perspective” to enhance the height difference. According to the report, the stunt performers portraying the giant Laestrygonians were about 7 feet tall, while the stunt double playing Odysseus’ army was about 5 feet tall.
Fans quickly took to social media to share their surprises about the creation of the scenes and more. One said: “Christopher Nolan eschewed CGI and used 7ft tall stuntmen to portray the Laestrygonians in The Odyssey. This is a record for Nolan, whose film The Dark Knight Rises premiered in 2012 and grossed $249 million worldwide. The film already had its best Monday of the year in the US with $18.67 million. It has already become Nolan’s biggest worldwide opening, beating out his previous releases “The Dark Knight Rises” with $249 million and “The Dark Knight” with $198 million.
