Unfortunately, with Hashir and his team’s ‘Vaazha 2’ and even the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Michael’ dominating the screens in Kerala, ‘Madhuvidhu’ seems to be having a mediocre run at the box office.
The romantic comedy film stars Sharafuddin and Kalyani Panicker. Jagadish and Azees Nedumangad appear in key supporting roles.
‘Madhuvidhu’ faces tough competition
The film’s presentation was influenced by the strong performances of Vaazha 2: Biopic of a Billion Bros. The blockbuster continues to dominate screens across Kerala. Apart from ‘Vaazha 2’, ‘Mohiniyattam’ starring Saiju Kurup is also a strong contender for the Sharafudheen star.According to Sakneelek, ‘Madhuvidhu’ has shown a gradual rise in daily collections. However, the numbers are still low. It opened with Rs 22 lakh on the first day.The collection increased slightly to Rs 27 lakh on the second day. On the third day, the film earned Rs 43,000 and then saw a small jump to Rs 61,000 on the fourth day.
The overall collections remain modest for Sharaf El Din’s star
The Malayalam version has contributed Rs 1.53 crore to the net collections so far. The film’s total revenue in India stands at Rs 1.71 crore. India net remains at Rs 1.53 lakh crore, which is 100% of revenue share.
‘Madhuvidhu’ follows the story of Amrit Raj who belongs to a family of three unmarried men. After several failed attempts to find a bride, he finally fell in love. His family is excited to welcome the woman into their home. The narrative then explores whether Amrit will succeed in bringing his love back home.
EETimes Verdict
The film received mixed reviews from critics. ETimes noted that the film attempts to present a simple romantic story with meaningful themes. Our exclusive review says: “Although the main story is a predictable romance, there are some important messages, about the need for the older generation to take a step back and let the youth make decisions about their own lives.” Director Vishnu Aravind helms the screenplay by Bipin Mohan and Jai Vishnu well. But in the second half, the film descends into a typical drama, with avoidable developments — pregnancy (which seems biologically difficult!) and a slap, among others — working against the story. In fact, with the way the love stories develop, the film feels like an anti-romance, with a group of men and women, who have a happy routine in their lives, and find themselves emotionally unstable when they become involved.
“Meanwhile, Sharafuddin’s previous hit film was ‘Padakkalam’.Disclaimer: Box office numbers and data in this article are compiled from public and industry sources.
