Studiocanal had a great Cannes festival.
The European producer/distributor has inked big deals across its slate at this year’s Marche du Film, headlined by a $30 million-plus deal with Paramount Pictures for the exciting pre-sale title. Midnight Libraryproduced by and starring Florence Pugh.
As previously announced, Paramount won the bidding war to secure the North American rights and several international territories for the feature. Garth Davis is set to direct the fantasy drama, adapted from Matt Haig’s best-selling book about a woman who finds a mysterious library that allows her to explore the infinite versions of her life. Studiocanal will release The Midnight Library across its regional footprint, including France, Germany, UK and Australia/New Zealand, with launch partners Scanbox in Scandinavia, Sun Africa Group/MultiChoice in South Africa, and Filmcoopi in Switzerland. The film is scheduled for production in early 2027.
Studiocanal also confirmed on Monday that it is in pre-sale negotiations for its new product Paddington The animated film, which company CEO Anna Marach announced at CinemaCon in April. The animated feature will be rolled out alongside the planned fourth live event Paddingtonfor which Armando Iannucci and Simon Blackwell are currently writing the script.
Other big-selling titles for the studio are included Violetthe next feature of Emily Director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, which made its market debut in Cannes and has sold to over 20 distributors worldwide; Adapted by Fred Cavalier Wretched which concluded with over 25 international distributors at a roadshow in Cannes; Taron Egerton’s comedy-thriller film Everyone wants to have sex with mewhich Studiocanal said was acquired across Europe, Asia and Latin America; Simon Stone The Senor With Andrew Scott and Olivia Colman; And Danny Boyle’s upcoming drama inkstarring Guy Pearce, Jack O’Connell, and Claire Foy, which closed to over 20 territories.
Studiocanal plans to bend Wretched In France on October 14 and Violet On December 9th. Both will be asked Everyone wants to have sex with me and ink across its territory in 2027. The Senor It will be released in the US via LD Entertainment and via Studiocanal across their territories in 2027.
