Actresses Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat are teaming up with director Dylan Meyer in a new project called “The Wrong Girls.” The Twilight Saga actress and Arrested Development star stars in the upcoming comedy series about a mistaken identity, which leads them down an adventurous but dangerous path of events.

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, director Dylan Meyer spoke about her first film and her experience making it. She stated: “Frankie and Molly are two co-dependent people who have happily spent the last ten years in a haze of weed smoke, co-signing each other’s poor choices and examining the increasingly urgent calls of adulthood.”“The Wrong Girls” has been in the works for some time, with Stewart serving as one of the writers. The actress also recently made her directorial debut with the film ‘The Chronology of Water’.While talking about how the film became a success, Mayer added, “The Wrong Girls was born from my relationship with my best friend and producing partner Maggie McLean, the girl I couldn’t do anything without.” She also added, “It’s a love letter to messy, wayward women and the essential platonic partnerships that sustain them. The Wrong Girls may have giant squids, Great Danes, talking cats, and supernatural powers, but the emotional story and stakes are pure memoir.”
“Stewart also talked about the projects and how she hopes people will like the quirky comedy. While speaking to Interview magazine in 2023, the actress first teased the project, saying, “Dylan and I are writing a movie. She’s an amazing comedic girl, and she’s really goofy. I think you’ll like it.”For context, Mayer and Stewart have been together for seven years now. The two also officially tied the knot in April 2025.
The plot of “The Wrong Girls”
The plot revolves around two aimless young women who are drug users who come across an experimental drug. However, after eating it, the two develop telepathic abilities with each other and their cats. Due to a mistaken identity, the duo is thrust into a world of danger where a dangerous rival is also seeking the same drugs they have.Besides Stewart and Shawkat, the film also stars names like Seth Rogen, Geena Davis, Lakeith Stanfield, Kumail Nanjiani, Zack Fox, and Tony Hale. It is scheduled to be released on August 14, 2026.
