A Los Angeles judge has rejected Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner’s attempt to seal documents related to their 2023 settlement with Ray J. The dispute centers around an alleged $6 million deal related to a sex tape, which Ray J claims was breached by the Kardashian family, which they discussed on their Hulu show.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner failed to keep parts of their legal dispute with Ray J under seal after a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied their request, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
The disputed records include a 2023 agreement that Ray J raised in the case.
The judge found that Kardashian and Jenner did not provide sufficient evidence to prove that disclosing the material would cause harm.

Kardashian and Jenner have asked the court to seal documents linked to an alleged 2023 settlement related to the sex tape dispute. The order covers the agreement itself and other filings related to the matter. In their plea before the court, Kardashian and Jenner’s lawyers said: “The agreement resolved very sensitive matters that both parties explicitly agreed to keep confidential in order to protect their families from public disclosure and to respect these sensitive matters.”
“The judge rejected this request. Court records show that Kardashian and Jenner were ordered to submit unredacted versions of the agreement after Ray J opposed the seal request. The legal dispute began in October 2025, when Kardashian and Jenner filed a lawsuit against Ray J. They alleged that he defamed them by claiming that the mother-daughter pair were being examined by federal authorities. Kardashian and Jenner denied the allegations in the case.
Ray J secret deal for 2023 claims
Ray J later filed a countersuit, alleging that Kardashian and Jenner violated a 2023 confidentiality agreement related to the sex tape dispute. He claimed that the deal required him to remain silent about the tape. He also claimed that he received $6 million under this agreement.In the countersuit, Ray J claimed that Kardashian and Jenner violated the deal by discussing the tape on an episode of their Hulu show. The Kardashian family has not confirmed the alleged amount of $6 million. Kardashian and Jenner then asked the court to keep the agreement and related documents private, citing confidential and personal information. Ray J. objected to this request, and the judge ruled in his favor on the issue of sealing.
The ruling addresses public access to court records and does not resolve the underlying claims in the lawsuit and countersuit. The case between Kardashian, Jenner and Ray J is still ongoing.
