Khloe Kardashian speaks out about participating in Netflix doc, The death and life of Lamar Odom.
The death and life of Lamar OdomThe film, directed by Ryan Duffy and released last month, recounts Odom’s 2015 fears when he was found unresponsive at the Love Ranch brothel outside Las Vegas. The doc features (separate) interviews with Kardashian and Odom. In her interviews, Kardashian recalls her experience, which included caring for him after he took an overdose and even canceling the divorce proceedings amid his recovery. After the doc’s release, Odom spoke out against Kardashian, disputing many of the claims she made in his doc. But now Kardashian is sharing her side of things.
In a recent episode of her podcast, Chloe in WonderlandKardashian expressed her frustration with Odom and spending “hours producing this documentary as a favor” only to have him speak negatively about her.
“Do people think I’m like talking about this all day? Hell no, it hurts. I have to relive things. I have to talk about things that haven’t been fun in my life. So, it’s like, no, I don’t feel like doing it,” she said on her podcast.
Kardashian recalled that Odom’s team asked her to do the documentary, which she was initially reluctant to do and considered agreeing to do for several months: “I wanted to make sure it was handled in the best way. I said I want to make sure this is a positive piece. I don’t really want to go down that path if it’s negative. He’s been through enough negativity. Let’s change the tune here.”
After Netflix encouraged her to do so, and it was confirmed that Odom was asking her to be a part of this and that it was a “big chapter,” Kardashian agreed.
“I willingly do Netflix for Lamar. I don’t get paid a penny to do it,” she said. “I don’t have a dog in this fight. It doesn’t matter to me if this documentary gets made or not. I don’t care. And it’s not something I want to talk about anymore.”
Hoping to get “on the same page” with what he wanted her to share, Kardashian said attempts to contact Odom went unanswered. “It took weeks to respond,” Kardashian said.
While sitting down to watch the documentary, Kardashian noted that not only was she speaking freely herself, but she had a producer asking her questions. “I’m doing exactly what the producer asks me to do. I didn’t watch the entire documentary until it came out.”
During his press tour for the doc, Odom made allegations that Kardashian said implied she was “false” and that he was “discrediting” her by saying she “wasn’t the one who helped him.” In his country today In a casual interview, Odom attributed his life to God saving her, not Kardashian, and disputed her claim that his father wanted to take him off life support.
“I think what makes me angry is that we did this, it’s all good. I’m done with this. I’m like, I’m never going to do another Lamar thing again, because I’m all good. But now Lamar is doing the press.” [and saying he’s] “Annoyed with me,” she said.
“For years he has been praising me. I don’t even need you to praise me. But you won’t attack me now or play on me now because you don’t like the reaction and the reaction of the audience.” She also wondered why he would respond so negatively if he had the opportunity to release a doc that he was fine with and could take down anything she said, which I noted to them after the shoot.
In the years since Odom’s overdose, Kardashian has remained silent, maintaining that this is not her story to tell. “I would never expose someone I didn’t have the right to expose. I kept it all to myself for 11 years or whenever it happened. Lamar asked me to do this documentary. I did it for him. His team, who brought these questions to the producer had to be someone who knew this stuff. That’s how they knew to ask me these questions. It doesn’t just happen.”
“I feel played,” she added.
Kardashian also laughed at Odom’s claims that he hasn’t watched the entire documentary yet. “This guy likes to censor himself. Are you telling me you have a documentary on yourself and trying to say publicly that you’ve never watched it? Boy, please. Let’s not do that. I think he wasn’t expecting this response and now he’s trying to smear me a little.”
In the doc, Odom also said he married Kardashian for fame. “Behind the scenes, you and your friends, you’re all saying how come you’re only with me for fame? This is like some damn thing. I feel stupid. I spent hours and time doing this documentary as a favor… Listen, I let go of the sex doll he made of me two years ago, which I thought was the most sociopathic thing. What a violation. How disgusting. What’s wrong with you? He’s trying to do things to get attention.”
Kardashian also says she’s “angry that I’m involved.”
Kardashian has received messages questioning why the tone has changed so much since the doc’s release, but she said she believes it’s because the more negative response to Odom but positive to her has led him to “attack her because she’s getting too much love.” She also said that what she said in the doc represents only “10 percent” of her experience and things she can talk about.
