Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and their son Travis turned Karlovy Vary into a family celebration on Friday night.

Provided by the family of creators Family movie at the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in front of a packed crowd of people who were clearly excited to go beyond the usual six steps for Kevin Bacon and his family. Missing from the stage was Travis’ sister Susie Bacon.

“We’re so excited to share this film with you, and it’s a dream come true to be here,” Sedgwick said to applause from the big names.

“It’s our first time in the Czech Republic, and we’re having a great time,” said Kevin Bacon. “As you will see in the film, we did it with our son Travis, who stars in the film and also… wrote the music, and our daughter Susie, who unfortunately is not here today.” “It’s fine. It’s working,” he added with a sigh of relief.

The family then surprised the Czech audience, with Bacon preparing the surprise with the words: “We’ll try this.” What followed was Sedgwick and Bacon saying something in Czech to the delight of the audience, which clapped and cheered. “We hope you love the movie the same way we love our family,” was the main message shared by one of the translators.

The three family members concluded the trip to the Czech Republic with a loud “thank you” in the local language, followed by another round of applause and cheers.

Family movie is a family horror comedy, co-directed by Bacon and Sedgwick and starring them and their children, that had its world premiere at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival. “A family of filmmakers finds themselves in a real-life horror movie when a dead body turns up on the set of their low-budget film, forcing them to cover up the murder to continue filming,” the film’s synopsis reads.

This year’s double anniversary edition of KVIFF brought a parade of stars to the picturesque spa town, including Jesse Eisenberg (Social network, Real pain), Jeffrey Wright (American fantasy, Western world), Juliette Binoche (The English Patient, Three colors: blue, In I am in motion), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Bride!, Missing daughter), Harvey Keitel (I mean the streets, Reservoir dogs), legendary cinematographer Robert Richardson and Dustin Hoffman (The graduate, rain man).
