Jason Momoa has stepped away from Helldivers, an upcoming video game film directed by Justin Lin. The film’s date is still set at November 10, 2027, but the team is now looking for a new main star and other cast members.
No reason has been given for Momoa’s exit from the sci-fi project, which is based on the popular shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios.

According to Variety, Momoa’s casting in Helldivers was first announced in February. Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions, which are backing the film, are now moving forward with the search for a replacement and the rest of the cast.The game follows an “elite unit of soldiers” known as the “Helldivers”.
They are fighting aliens that threaten to destroy the fictional super planet Earth. More plot details of the film have not been shared yet.Justin Lin is directing the adaptation. Hutch Parker is producing with Asad Qizilbash. Lin is also producing through Perfect Storm Entertainment.

The film comes as video game adaptations continue to attract strong interest from studios and viewers. The 2022 Uncharted film, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, has grossed $407 million worldwide.
Other game-based titles tied to the same larger-screen push include Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” series and HBO’s “The Last of Us” series.“Helldivers” was first released in 2015 by Arrowhead Game Studios. A sequel titled “Helldivers 2” will be released in 2024. The property has enough material for future films if the first film does well.Momoa still has many projects after leaving Helldivers. His roster includes “A Minecraft Movie: Squared,” the follow-up to his hit “Minecraft,” as well as the anime hybrids “Animal Friends,” “Fast Forever,” and “Protecting Jared.”He will also appear in major franchise films this year. Momoa is set to star in the Street Fighter movie as Blanca, described in the material as “Blanka the savage brute.” He will also return as Duncan Idaho in “Dune: Part 3” and will play Lobo, an intergalactic bounty hunter, in “Supergirl.”Casting is now the next major step for “Helldivers” as the film works toward a 2027 release.
