Imax and film financier Nocturnal Entertainment have stepped up borderan Academy Award-winning documentary about contemporary American western cowboys Oppenheimer Producer Charles Roven and Believe Entertainment Group.
Imax will finance and produce the documentary along with Nocturnal as the film technology company will give veteran photographer and author Anouk Masson Krantz’s directorial debut in late 2026 on the big screen.
Her original photography book, border, It saw Krantz traveling across the Americas, including the United States, to capture visual images of the North American cowboy, the Central American vaquero, and the South American gaucho. Her documentary, produced by longtime Imax collaborator Charles Roven and Stephanie Roven through Atlas Entertainment, and Dan Goodman of Oscar- and Emmy-winning Believe Entertainment Group, was filmed on location at T4 Ranch in eastern New Mexico.
Krantz captured images of real cowboys working on a private ranch far removed from the frontier history or present depicted in scripted Western television dramas such as Yellowstone and 1883. “We are honored to partner with legendary Hollywood producer Chuck Roven, Nocturnal and Imax to bring authentic modern-day cowboys and ranchers – and the stunning landscapes of the American West – to an immersive Imax cinematic experience for audiences around the world,” the director said in a statement.
The documentary, which is now in post-production, will use Imax’s proprietary image and sound technology to bring audiences alongside the cowboys, whether on the range, in the saddle or at camp with an immersive experience of modern ranching life. “We share a passion for farm life, and partnering with Imax, Nocturnal and Anouk on this project has been a truly rewarding experience,” Stephanie and Charles Roven said in their own statement.
Peter Billingsley, Akiva Nemetzky, and Keaton Heinrich are the executive producers border For Night Studios and the Los Angeles Times.
