Suddenly, Jim Carrey was the new Avril Lavigne.

The actor’s appearance at the Cesar Awards in Paris last week sparked a wave of conspiracy theories that… Dumb and dumber The actor was replaced by a copy.

The reason for these theories seems to be that the 64-year-old actor’s face looks a bit flaming in some snapshots online.

“Sorry, but there’s a zero percent chance this is actually Jim Carrey,” one account with 47,000 followers on X declared. “I’m not saying he’s a clone or some stupid Illuminati, but for some reason he’s obviously using a body double to take his place.”

While other fringe accounts largely said that Carrey was replaced by a clone (example: “Jim Carrey was cloned and killed by Satanists. They can create a clone in 5 months.”)

Adding fuel to the fire was a clip of Curry that dates back decades Late Night with David Letterman The actor said that he uses booby traps to fool photographers. “I’ve done this a few times now using a decoy,” the actor said at the time, seemingly serious. “Using a decoy – it might sound so silly but it works like a charm… a double for Jim Carrey. I send it one way, it absorbs all the press in that direction, and I just go about my day.”

Of course, using a snare to take pressure off your back is one thing. Sending someone else in your place to accept an honorary award equivalent to the French Oscar in the presence of your family would be an entirely different matter.

Others have speculated that the actor has undergone recent plastic surgery of some sort. Or he intentionally changed his appearance as a kind of performance art. Needless to say, all forms of rumor had an undercurrent of spirituality due to their whole “it doesn’t look like you anymore” nature.

Then, when the rumors were really starting to grow, costar Alexis Stone posted on Instagram on Sunday suggesting that she use prosthetics to make herself look like Carrey and imitate him at the awards show. She posted a photo of Carrey at the awards ceremony with the caption: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris.”

to be sure? So it wasn’t Carrie after all? At this point, Megan Fox was also brought up, with the actress commenting on the post: “I can’t take any more pressure right now, I want to know if this is real.” While Katy Perry commented with a bullseye emoji.

But it appeared that Cesar Awards organizers and Carey’s representatives had had enough on Monday morning. Cesar Awards general representative Gregory Collier said in a statement obtained first diverse“Jim Carrey’s visit has been planned since this summer,” he praised the actor’s preparation for his speech, which was delivered entirely in French. Collier described the rumors as a “non-issue”, saying: “I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”

A few hours later, Curry’s personal rep confirmed — and you can hear the weary sigh accompanying that statement — for the first time to TMZ“Jim Carrey attended the Cesar Awards ceremony where he received an honorary Cesar Award.”

So this is it. Yes, that was Jim Carrey and not a copy, body double or knockoff.

The shame about this is that Carrey’s rousing speech received huge praise from those in attendance (among them his girlfriend Mina, daughter Jane, and grandson Jackson). Carrey is not a French speaker and seems to have worked long and hard on his delivery. “As an actor, every character you play is like clay in the hand of a sculptor, which you shape according to your heart’s desire,” he said in French. “How lucky I have been to share this art with so many people who have truly opened their hearts to me.”

Clone/double rumors have been repeatedly fueled on X, which has come under fire for misinformation of a far more serious nature since President Trump ordered an attack on Iran late Friday. A Wired The story wrote that X had been “drowning in misinformation” since the attack began.
