We have tragic news to report from the music world.
Rob Base – the rapper best known for the popular party anthem “It Takes Two” – has died after a battle with cancer.
He was 59 years old.

The news of Base’s death was confirmed through a statement shared on his official Instagram page.
“Today, we share the heartbreaking news that hip-hop legend Rob Peace passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by his family after a private battle with cancer,” the statement read.
“Rob’s music, energy and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions around the world. Off stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend and creative force whose influence will never be forgotten,” the post continued.
“Thank you for the music, memories and moments that have become the soundtrack of our lives.
Base, born Robert Guignard, rose to fame as one half of the pioneering duo Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock, helping bring hip-hop into the mainstream with the release of their legendary 1988 hit “It Takes Two.”
The track became an instant cultural phenomenon, and remains a radio staple nearly four decades later.
A few days before his death, Pace celebrated his 59th birthday.
His biggest hit, 1988’s “It Takes Two,” blended hip-hop and dance music in a very innovative way.
The song climbed the charts and eventually became one of the most sampled tracks of its era.
Base’s longtime musical partner, DJ EZ Rock, died in 2014 due to diabetes-related complications.
The duo met while growing up in Harlem and built a friendship that eventually turned into one of the most memorable collaborations in rap.
Rob hasn’t completely stepped away from the spotlight, continuing to perform on nostalgia tours and appear in front of longtime fans.
Our thoughts go out to Rob Base’s loved ones during this extremely difficult time.
