Heidi Gardner and William H. Messi is ready to impress with their upcoming drama.
Gardner and Macy are set to star in the independent film Swimming lesson From writer and director Casey Twenter, Hollywood Reporter I’ve learned. Production is scheduled to begin this summer in Gardner’s hometown of Kansas City.
Swimming lesson The film revolves around Ty (Gardner), a single mother who leaves behind her complicated life in Los Angeles to return to her childhood home. She ends up embroiled in a custody battle over her son Albie, an autistic child who is obsessed with the ocean but afraid to swim. Macy stars as Leonard, Ty’s foul-mouthed father whose gruff nature can sometimes mask the fact that he remains loyal to his daughter and grandson.
In his solo directorial debut, Twenter helmed the project from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Robison. Twenter and Robson previously co-wrote the 2014 drama Rudderlesswhich marks Macy’s directorial debut and was distributed after its premiere at Sundance.
“Swimming lesson”The company’s producers include Dan Koetting for KP’s Remain and Robison for Kindling Productions, along with Jen Greenstreet and Mandi Kearns for Just Like You Films. Mark Williams serves as director of photography, and Matteo Messina composes the music. Stephanie Seaver and Hailey Giles of Spark Casting are handling the casting.
“We knew Ty needed an actor who could carry the humor, chaos and heartbreak of this story, and Heidi is exactly that,” says Twenter. “From there, the goal was to surround her with a backing band that could meet her at that level, and there’s no better place to start than with William H. Macy. Bill brings the warmth and humanity that Leonard needs, and I’m thrilled to be working with him again.”
It is best known for its eight seasons Saturday Night Liveand other upcoming features for Gardner include Scary movie And Will Ferrell led Judgment Daywhile her credits include NBC series The fall and rise of Reggie Dinkins And Apple TV devices Shrink. Macy is an Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actor whose recent credits include Running man, Train dreams And Dan Fogelman’s upcoming Hulu series the earth.
