‘Glad Janhvi Kapoor stood up for it and fought for all women’: ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ actress Anjana Sukhani supports ‘Peddi’ star’s stand against objectification in south cinema

Throwing her weight into the industry debate over the objectification of women on screen, Anjana Sukhani specifically praised Janhvi Kapoor for taking a brave stand regarding her portrayal in Ram Charan’s recently released film ‘Peddi’. In a recent interview, Sukhani revealed that while she fortunately never faced personal exploitation or objectification during her time in South Indian cinema, she has great respect for those pushing for systemic change.

Her comments arrive amidst the continued box office run of her new film ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ which has collected Rs. 21.85 crores globally in its first week.

Anjana Sukhani opens the door to objectification

While Anjana acknowledged the larger debate, she said she was aware of the concerns raised, and expressed her appreciation for those who spoke openly about the issue. She specifically praised actresses who chose to express their discomfort and stand up for themselves.Speaking about this topic, she told Mid Day: “I personally did not face that at all, perhaps because my films were not like that.

But I heard about the controversy. I think that’s a battle you have to fight. I’m so happy that Janhvi stood up for this and fought for all the women who would stand up, you know, or who would feel objectified. They also won’t have the courage to stand up and say, “I’m not comfortable.”

Anjana Sukhani about working with Nasir al-Din Shah

Anjana also spoke about her experience working alongside veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah in the film Main Vaapas Aaunga.

The actress admitted that she initially felt intimidated by the famous artist because of his status and reputation in the industry. Anjana noted that Naseeruddin Shah remained deeply invested in his character during filming. She was careful not to disturb his creative process and preferred to give him the space he needed while preparing for emotionally demanding scenes.“I would definitely say that Nasir Saab was intimidating to me because he is a legend and his personality was also very intense, so there wasn’t a lot of conversation I could have with him because I also didn’t want to break his space, you know, what he feels as a character.”“You don’t want to break someone’s feelings and interfere because it takes a lot to build something like that,” Sukhani added, explaining her approach further.
